HUDSON – Jessika Menard’s job is no piece of cake.
She’s a dessert designer and this weekend she’s making the most important creation of her career: an 18th birthday cake for reality TV star Kylie Jenner.
“It’s going to be 1920’s Paris style cake Baroque, it’s going to be gold, silver, flowers, feathers, which no one actually knew yet, so that’ll be the style of the cake,” she said.
Menard has received international attention for her designs.
After all, just one flower takes hours to make.
She estimates the whole project will take about four days, feed 150 people and costs around $2,000.
Baking and decorating is only part of the challenge; she’s also had to keep her plans for the cake under wraps.
“A lot of people have been asking, I’ve had people calling to have a photoshoot with the cake and see it beforehand, but I don’t want to do that,” she said.
Jenner will be celebrating her 18th at Beachclub in Point-Calumet.
Menard started assembling the creation on Friday, but it’s not the only cake on her plate.
She also has to deliver three wedding cakes and a birthday cake.
The Jenner commission has made the Hudson café a hotspot.
“The business has been booming. I have to be honest the restaurant went up 25 to 30 per cent,” said Menard.
“Especially during the week, it’s a bit quieter in Hudson, not as much people as downtown, we’ve been having turnovers non-stop. Cake-wise as well, we’ve been getting a lot more requests.”
With a high profile client and international attention, Menard is having her cake and eating it too.
