CALGARY – The disappearance of a 44-year-old Alberta man is now being treated as a homicide, according to RCMP investigators from Calgary.
RCMP said Mohamed Jama Abdi, of Brooks, was reported missing on July 24. He hadn’t been heard from since July 14.
“Although Mohamed’s remains have yet to be located, a Canada-wide arrest warrant for second-degree murder was issued for Ali Abdullahi Awale, a 40-year-old man from Brooks, Alberta, in relation to this homicide,” said the RCMP in a statement.
Police believe Awale left Brooks on a bus on July 16, and boarded a plane on July 23 from Toronto to Somalia.
Investigators are appealing to the public for any information on Abdi’s whereabouts, including what he was doing before July 16. The RCMP are also asking for information on the activites of Awale.
“Your assistance could help our investigators to find Mohamed’s body, so it can be returned to his family,” said Sergeant Raimo Loo, Brooks RCMP Acting Detachment Commander in a statement.
