Summary: NDP MP Irene Mathyssen has held this seat in 2006. She is seeking re-elction.

Boundaries: The eastern third of London, this riding encompasses parts of the city east of Highbury Avenue in the north, and several roads slightly to the west of that when south of the CN Rail line.

Last Election: Mathyssen defeated Conservative candidate Jim Chahbar by 17.4 per cent, her highest margin of victory in three elections.

History: The riding has been held by Mathyssen since 2006 and Liberal MP Pat O’Brien between 1997 and 2006. When the riding was known as London East, it went to the Liberals in seven of eight elections between 1968 and 1993.

Demographics: Home to the London Airport, this is the poorest of London’s three ridings, with an average income of $32,861, ninth lowest in the province.
