Convicted animal abuser April Irving’s plea date put over to September

WATCH ABOVE: Tuesday was supposed to be the day April Irving finally entered a plea in an animal abuse case, but instead she was granted another adjournment. Kimberly Tams reports.

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Convicted animal abuser April Irving was granted one final adjournment after she was expected to enter a plea in Lethbridge provincial court on Tuesday.

Irving faces several charges of animal cruelty after five dogs were found dead on a property near Milk River, Alta. earlier this year. In late December, officers moved in on the rural property and seized about 60 sick and starving dogs. In January, an additional 140 or so dogs were seized.

On Tuesday, Irving told the judge she was just officially approved for legal aid coverage on Monday, but a lawyer had not been appointed to her.

Irving also said she is waiting for more disclosure from the Crown.

The Crown said this case has been stalled for too long and that it is time to move forward.

The judge agreed to give Irving one more adjournment. Irving is set to be back in court Sept. 1,when the judge said she must have a lawyer, and must enter a plea.
