Small wildfire burning near Chute Lake

Air tankers drop retardant on wildfire near Chute Lake. Brady Foster

B.C. Wildfire Service crews are responding to a 0.1 hectare fire burning 1.5 kilometers north of Chute Lake.

The wildfire was first reported late Monday afternoon and officials initially dispatched air tankers to hold the fire while ground crews made their way to the blaze. The air tankers dropped retardant to box in the fire.

“In these kinds of situations we send aircraft to hold the fire we want to mitigate the risk of any kind of spread happening,” says fire information officer Melissa Klassen.

Melissa Klassen says they have one initial attack crew on scene and two others en route.

The fire is not contained but Klassen says it is boxed in.

No buildings are threatened by the blaze. What sparked the fire is still under investigation.
