Law office of Harper Lee’s father, inspiration for Atticus Finch, for sale

MONROEVILLE, Ala. – A piece of literary history is for sale in the south Alabama hometown of “To Kill a Mockingbird” author Harper Lee.

An old bank building that once housed the office of Lee’s father, A.C. Lee, is for sale for $125,000 in Monroeville.

Lee’s father provided the inspiration for fictional attorney Atticus Finch in both “Mockingbird” and Lee’s recently released “Go Set a Watchman.”

A town historian says Lee would have had the old building in mind when she wrote about a key scene in “Watchman” that occurs in Atticus’ law office.

The 6,000-square-foot (557-square-meter) building has been vacant for years and needs repairs, but it’s in a prominent spot on the courthouse square.
