MONTREAL – One of the biggest tournaments on the ATP tour is back at the Uniprix Stadium in Montreal, much to the delight of thousands of tennis fans.
Eight of the world’s top ten male tennis players are vying to for the top position at the Rogers Cup, which will take place over a nine day event.
Friday started off with a practice session, with players already drawing in huge crowds to watch every serve, crushing groundstroke and overhead smash.

Qualifications start Saturday and the main draw begins Monday.
Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal are just some of household names competing to win the tournament, which boasts a top prize of $685,200 U.S. and 1,000 ATP points.
One disappointment for fans is the absence of Roger Federer, who decided to skip the tournament this year.
Still, the tournament’s director, Eugène Lapierre, is hoping to set a new world attendance record.
More than 213,000 people turned out for the event in 2011.
The women’s competition will take place at the Aviva Centre in Toronto.
