Hydro crews started moving the Hertel-Viger line that runs along Highway 10 in order to clear the work area necessary to build the deck of the new bridge.

“It was quite a challenge because of the wind,” Hydro-Quebec Project Manager Joel Lamirande-Nadeau told Global News.

They have to move two kilometres of power lines to make way for the new Champlain bridge.

By September, eight new tubular towers will be built, including four double towers.

The new line segment will run near the Highway 10 service road, about 70 metres north of the current line.

The new bridge is slated to be finished by 2018.
