Missing links on Sources Boulevard’s reserved bus lane

ABOVE WATCH: It seems the new bus and carpooling lanes on Sources Boulevard have some big limitations. Global’s Tim Sargeants reports.

DOLLARD-DES-ORMEAUX –  The Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) is pulling out all the stops to boost ridership on the West Island.

It’s latest initiative is the freshly minted reserved bus lanes running along Sources Boulevard between Pointe-Claire and Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

The lanes are for the exclusive use of buses, taxis and carpooling vehicles during morning and afternoon rush hour periods.

But the north and southbound lanes have their limitations; a large section going through parts of Pointe-Claire and DDO isn’t designated for mass transit, so city buses are forced to drive with regular traffic.

WATCH: Sources Boulevard now has a reserved bus lane

“I’m disappointed,” said Jim Beis, Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough mayor.

The northbound lanes of Sources Boulevard between Hymus Boulevard in Pointe-Claire and de Salaberry Boulevard in DDO has no reserved lanes.

It’s a similar situation in the southbound direction.

STM officials had said the lanes affect about 5,000 rides and expect to increase reliability by 10 per cent.
