Summary: One of Edmonton’s new ridings, created to accommodate the city’s population growth. Conservative MP James Rajotte represented this area for 11 years, but is not re-offering. Former PC MLA Matt Jeneroux, who was defeated in the NDP sweep of Edmonton in the spring of 2015, will try to keep this seat Conservative.
Boundaries: This new riding includes the urban core of the former riding of Edmonton-Leduc, including most of the city’s southwest neighbourhoods.
Last Election: Rajotte won the Edmonton-Leduc riding in 2011 with 63 per cent of the vote, a margin of victory of more than 26,000 votes over the second-place NDP candidate, Artem Medvedev. Had the current riding boundaries been in effect in 2011, the Conservatives would have earned 59 per cent of the vote, followed by the NDP with 21 per cent.
