MOOSE JAW – A 20-year-old man was back in police custody Tuesday night following several hours in hiding that ended with being chased down by officers on foot.
Jamie Ray Munroe escaped custody from Moose Jaw Provincial Court earlier in the day while appearing on charges stemming from a head-on crash over the weekend.
Munroe allegedly overpowered and assaulted a commissionaire guard, who was trying to loosen the shackles. The prisoner then stole the keys and escaped on foot.
Sgt. Cliff Froehlich says Munroe was spotted downtown near the courthouse around 6:15 Tuesday evening. Shortly after being seen by an officer, he was caught in a foot chase.
Police suspected Munroe had “hunkered down or broke into a garage” near the courthouse in the afternoon, Froehlich says.
The search included 15-20 officers from the Moose Jaw Police Service, RCMP and CP Rail police.
