MONTREAL – The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is rethinking how it uses its stealth cruisers after three people were killed in an accident in Lac-Saint-Louis, Que. earlier this month.
A vehicle carrying three seniors collided with a cruiser that was responding to an emergency in Dolbeau-Mistassini, a town in northern Quebec.
Authorities confirmed that for now, the black tone-on-tone cars will not be responding to emergency calls except in exceptional situations.
Stealth cars have no rooftop emergency lights and have monochrome markings; those bearing a white-on-white tone are called ghost cars, while unmarked cars are considered undercover.
