TORONTO — The director of X-Men: Apocalypse teased fans Tuesday with a behind-the-scenes photo that seems to suggest the movie will go back at the origins of Storm.

“Tip toeing through ruined #Cairo #1983 #xmen #apocalypse,” Bryan Singer wrote in the caption for a photo showing him on a soundstage at Montreal’s Cité du Cinéma.

According to Uncanny X-Men #102, published in 1976, Storm was orphaned in Egypt as a child during the Suez Crisis and became a prolific thief on the streets of Cairo, where one of her victims was Professor Xavier.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Yes this is were (sic) Storm meets Apocalypse hopefully,” a fan wrote on Singer’s Instagram.

Another commented: “Awesome, looks like we will finally get to see the Origins of Storm in Cairo – maybe show her recruitment by Apocalypse on his home turf.”

One fan thought Singer shared too much. “Would have preffered (sic) to not knowing its (sic) in Cairo, the pic itself would have been more than enough as a tease, but oh well…”

In Apocalypse, Storm is played by 24-year-old Alexandra Shipp. In previous X-Men movies, the older version of the character was portrayed by Halle Berry.

X-Men: Apocalypse, which is shooting in Montreal until Sept. 4, is due for release on May 27, 2016.
