Lockdown and search ends at Drumheller Institution

CALGARY – The Drumheller Institution was placed under a lockdown last Wednesday so staff could search the facility for contraband items. The institution resumed its normal operations on Monday.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said the lockdown was issued at 3:24 p.m. to “ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.”

Visits to the medium security prison were suspended until the search was completed.

In a news release, the CSC said it is “strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions.”

“CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”
