Convicted murderer dies at Drumheller Institution

CALGARY – An inmate at the Drumheller Institution has been found dead in his cell.

Earl Williams Davenport died on Monday after being discovered unresponsive at the medium security prison.

Staff called 911 and performed CPR on Davenport, but weren’t able to resuscitate him.

The 56-year-old had been serving an indeterminate sentence since November 27th, 1987.

He was convicted of one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of Laura Davenport and Susan Hornbeck in Hamilton in 1986.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will be reviewing the incident.

However, a Correctional Service spokesman says foul play is not suspected.
