WELLAND, Ont. – Former Olympic champion Adam van Koeverden has won bronze in the K1 1,000 metres at the Pan American Games.

The four-time Olympic medallist from Oakville, Ont., led until the final 300 metres but faded to finish third behind winner Jorge Garcia of Cuba and silver medallist Daniel Dal Bo of Argentina.

Canada normally sends a B team in canoe/kayak to the Pan Ams, so this marked van Koeverden’s Pan Am debut.
