Two young Okanagan women killed in crash identified

UPDATE, July 13: The B.C. Coroners Service is identifying the two young woman killed in Vernon over the weekend.

They are 22-year-old Chantal Diane Bazin of Kelowna and 26-year-old Kayla Elizabeth Cartwright, also of Kelowna. The Coroners Service says the vehicle the two women were travelling in slid across the centre-line and collided with an on-coming vehicle.

The roads were wet at the time and road conditions are being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.

VERNON -Two young women are dead after a car crash in Vernon early Sunday morning.

The crash shut down Highway 97 for about six hours.

It happened shortly after midnight on Highway 97 at the 27th Street overpass.

A southbound vehicle crossed the centre line of the highway and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle.

Two women from Kelowna, aged 22 and 26, died at the scene.

A 32-year-old woman and 26-year-old man in the other vehicle were taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

No names have been released.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
