EDMONTON — The president of the Alberta Federation of Labour is going to try his hand at federal politics.

In a media release issued late Thursday night, Gil McGown said he will announce Friday that he plans to seek the federal NDP nomination in Edmonton-Centre.

“For more than 20 years, I’ve dedicated myself to defending the rights of working people in Alberta, fighting for good jobs, for public health care, for secure retirements,” said McGowan.

McGowan will officially announce his intentions at noon Friday in Grant Notley Park.
