TORONTO – Team Canada is looking to dominate the pool in both women’s duet and team synchronized swimming events at the Pan Am Games.

Synchronized swimming kicks off Thursday at the Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatics Centre and Field House in Markham, Ont.

Canada won gold in both events at the Guadalajara 2011 Pan Am Games and is looking to repeat again in Toronto.

Karine Thomas and Jacqueline Simoneau represent Canada’s duo team and are looking to get their first gold together.

“These are our first Pan Am Games, so that is a big deal, but to compete in our home country is especially amazing,” Simoneau told reporters at Team Canada’s welcome ceremony.

Thomas and the now-retired Chloe Isaac brought home the gold in 2011.

The winner of the duo event will earn an entry to the 2016 Olympic Games.
