MONTREAL – Continued renovations at Place du Canada has created a potentially dangerous cycling zone on Peel street.
The stretch of road lies between René-Levesque boulevard and de la Gauchetiere street, which has been whittled down to three lanes.
The downtown core of Peel street has become a maze of construction, with the stretch between Sainte-Catherine street Ouest and de Maisonneuve street also completely closed.

“The problem is, what happens if a car wants to overtake you?” said Marek Dziong, who was pedalling up one of the northbound lanes.
“That could be a problem.”
City officials note that work on Place du Canada has been on the books for weeks, but added they’re looking into the safety issue.
“The road’s too narrow for bikes,” said Ludovic Praingere, a tourist from France cycling from Toronto to Saguenay.
“There aren’t any signs.”
