Searching for #yxeBestBurger – Hudson’s

Kevin takes his search for #yxeBestBurger to Hudson’s. Kevin Stanfield / Global News

I had a chance to meet a friend downtown and our luncheon took us to Hudson’s, where, in a moment of swollen Canadian patriotism, I dove into the All-Canadian, a burger of Canadian proportions.

From the bottom bun up, that’s lettuce, the patty, Back Bacon, Canadian Oka Cheese, Canadian Cheddar, lumberjack lager braised onions, tomato, and a maple BBQ mayo.

This Canuckian cornucopia was a beefy (hold that thought) two-hander that I could have clobbered in the sin bin on a 2-minute minor (expect references). I ask for the highlight on beefy because this patty was the only “flaw” I found – not that it wasn’t tasty, but since I’m searching for my best burger, double-double that meat there, eh?

The inserts were all phenomenal. The bacon came apart better than I expected as I chomped down – this was a pleasant surprise. Many a’times I’ve taken that first bite and inadvertently dredged out a chewy slice of delicious bacon, which promptly received an assist from gravity and slapped me in the face. My friends called me pork-chin. Not a good day.

If you’re thinking that combining meat, sharp cheeses and braised onions with a maple BBQ mayo is a good idea, high five your local politician.

Patriotism.

The mayo was fantastic, a perfect sauce for a burger like this.

Hudson’s, you do fantastic things with burgers. I highly recommend.
