One in custody after high speed crash in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – One person is in custody after a high speed crash Wednesday morning in Saskatoon. A truck slammed into a parked car in the 2100-block of 17th Street West around 4:30 a.m.

It started when police spotted the pickup truck being driven erratically in the 300-block of Avenue T South. The driver refused to stop for patrol officers and evaded them for a short distance before slamming into the car on 17th Street. The impact left the small car with serious damage.

The truck then went through some trees and struck another parked car before coming to a stop in front of a house.

The driver then fled the scene but was tracked down quickly a short distance later with the help of a canine unit.

Officers say the truck had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

A 17-year-old has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, evading police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police.

He is expected to go before a judge later on Wednesday.
