River Landing construction complete, amphitheatre sponsor named

SASKATOON – The beautiful weather on Tuesday was the perfect backdrop to introduce new additions to Saskatoon’s River Landing. Mayor Don Atchison and other officials gathered for the event to reveal the sponsor the sponsor of the amphitheatre and the name that goes with it.

Wright Construction, a company that has been in the Saskatoon community since 1905, will sponsor the Riverfront Stage.

“We just found that it was a project that we felt was appropriate,” said Lorne Wright, president of Wright Construction.

“We also have long historical ties to the Meewasin Valley and the beautification of our wonderful river which really is the nerve centre of our beautiful city so it just seemed natural for us to get involved.”

The Riverfront Stage includes a wooden platform with power capacity and a grassy knoll area that can be rented for free for weddings, concerts and other events along the South Saskatchewan River.

Atchison also unveiled a global art project known “Before I Die, I Want To…” at the Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge. People can use the chalk provided to write their hopes and dreams on a large blackboard which has been done in 70 countries.

The city also announced its portion of construction at River Landing is now complete. The $81.5-million project was funded by Saskatoon, the federal and provincial governments and the Meewasin Valley Authority.
