City Council has ratified a new four-year collective agreement with over 650 city employees.

The deal covers workers with the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 70, which represents a total of 672 city employees.

The agreement is retroactive to January  1, 2015 and includes wage increases for unionized employees of:

– Two per cent at the beginning of 2015 and 2016
– 2.5 per cent at the beginning of 2017 and 2018
– an additional 0.5 per cent wage increase on July 1, 2018

Mayor Chris Spearman is in favour of the new deal, saying “This agreement is fair to our valued front-line employees as well as the Lethbridge residents they serve. It is aligned with City Council’s budget and financial plan for this term and provides labour stability for the City during a period of economic uncertainty in Alberta.”

The deal also covers non-union administrative employees, who will receive wage increases of:

– Two per cent on July 1, 2015 and Jan. 1, 2016
– 2.5-per cent at the beginning of 2017 and 2018
