Kelley Slimmon sprang into action when he saw Lizzie running along the tracks as he pulled into the Bridgeland-Memorial station on Saturday afternoon.

Stopping the train immediately, he jumped out and tried to round her up.

Lizzie was frightened and hard to corral, but Slimmon eventually got her onto his train, cheered on by the passengers.

Lizzie’s owner, Giselle Thirlwall, had left her pet in her sister’s fenced yard a few blocks from the station. She was terrified when she returned to find her dog gone.

Thirlwall is very grateful Slimmon rescued her canine companion.

“It’s heaven,” she said. “I’m very happy–very thankful.”
