City of Vernon spokeswoman Courtenay Pitcher says three staff members took action, using CPR and a defibrillator to get the women breathing again before paramedics arrived.

The woman’s brother says his sister, who is married with three children, is now doing well in Victoria, where she’s waiting to get a pacemaker.

The man says his sister suffered Sudden Death Syndrome, a rare and unexpected cardiac incident which is not considered a heart attack and in which the chance of survival is usually less than one per cent.

One of the lifeguards who helped save the woman, Laura Hitchen, also helped save a one-year-old child after he swallowed a quarter at the rec centre last month. (CKIZ)
