TORONTO — The mystery of which character Common is playing in Suicide Squad wasn’t solved Thursday when photos of the star on location appeared online.
The 43-year-old rapper-actor was snapped on the Toronto set with dyed facial hair, tattoos on his head and face, and several large piercings.
Common’s appearance seemed to put a rest to speculation that he is playing Black Manta — but has sparked rumours he’s playing Tattooed Man, a one-time member of the Suicide Squad who can make his body art come to life.

But, some fans have pointed out, Tattooed Man is white in the comic books.
Common might also be portraying Doctor Mist or Bronze Tiger. The former is a heroic figure in the DC Comics universe and the latter is a mercenary with martial arts skills.
Suicide Squad, shooting in Toronto until the end of August, stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and many others as supervillains enlisted by the U.S. government to take on dangerous missions.
Toronto is doubling for both Midway City and Gotham.
