A four-year-old appears to be unhurt after falling from a second-storey balcony in Surrey Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. in an apartment building in the 14900-block of 105th Avenue.

When RCMP officers arrived, a B.C. Ambulance was already on scene treating the child. The four-year-old boy was not displaying any signs of injury, but was transported to hospital as a precaution.

Police say the child fell out through the patio door onto the balcony, and climbed up onto a chair that was against the balcony railing.

He had then climbed over top of the railing, falling about three meters to the soft ground below.

A neighbour witnessed what was happening and helped the child back into the building and his apartment.

The RCMP say it is a reminder for parents to be cautious with leaving windows and patio doors open, especially with warmer weather on the way.
