WATCH: An emergency call for shots fired in Surrey today lead to a heavy police response, forcing two schools and another building into lockdown mode. It appears to be a case of swatting….a prank call to 9-1-1. Asa Rehman reports.
Two schools and a public pool in Surrey were on lockdown this afternoon following what RCMP are saying was a false report to 9-1-1.
According to Mounties, an unidentified caller phoned 9-1-1 and reported a violent domestic incident, which involved shots being fired in the 14600-block of 17A Avenue. In response to the call, several police cars, along with the emergency response team and police dog unit, were sent to the area.

In addition to the officers, H.T. Thrift Elementary, Semiahmoo Secondary School and South Surrey Indoor Pool were locked down as a safety measure.
After further investigation by RCMP, they found the call was false and the lockdowns were lifted.
Surrey RCMP Cpl Scotty Schumann said they will be working on identifying the caller and pursuing charges of public mischief. Schumann was quick to point out that making a false report is a crime and persons convicted of public mischief can face a jail sentence of five years and a fine up to $5,000.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Surrey RCMP.
