CALGARY – Alberta’s largest natural gas-fueled power plant, the Shepard Energy Centre, held an official opening ceremony on Tuesday in east Calgary.
The plant is a joint venture between ENMAX and Capital Power. It adds over 800 megawatts of electricity to the Alberta grid, which is enough to power almost half of the city.
Since it’s powered by natural gas, it’s about 30 per cent more efficient than a conventional coal plant with less than half the carbon dioxide emissions.
