Maple Creek man leads Saskatoon police on chase in stolen vehicle

SASKATOON – A Maple Creek, Sask. man suspected in several vehicle thefts in the province has been arrested. The 22-year-old man is facing numerous stolen vehicle charges after leading Saskatoon police on a brief chase.

It began Tuesday morning in Maple Creek, where police say he stole a vehicle and drove it to Gull Lake before abandoning it a stealing a second vehicle.

He ended up in a pursuit with Mounties near Rosetown. He was captured and charged before being released.

Police say he then stole a vehicle in Rosetown and headed towards Saskatoon.

Just before 6:30 p.m., Saskatoon police were alerted by RCMP about the stolen vehicle.

Officers intercepted the vehicle on Circle Drive South near Clarence Avenue. They then followed it to the intersection of Circle and Preston where the driver stopped at a red light.

As officers approached, the driver put the vehicle in reverse. Police say he backed into a vehicle, pushing it backwards.

The driver then headed south on Preston with police in pursuit. He pulled over moments later on Snell Crescent and surrendered to officers.

The unnamed man is facing charges of possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and evading police. He is scheduled to appear Wednesday morning in Saskatoon provincial court.
