SASKATOON – Police had to Taser a man following a disturbance in Saskatoon early Tuesday morning. Police say the disturbance happened around 4:50 a.m. in River Heights.

According to police, officers arrived in the 10-block of Bow Court to see a man acting disoriented and aggressive. He then approached officers and disobeyed a command to stop.

When officers tried to control the man, police say he reached for an officer’s gun and then physically assaulted them.

Officials say an officer then fired the Taser to gain control of the man for the safety of the officers along with his own safety.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries unrelated to the conducted energy weapon deployment.

The unnamed 37-year-old man is facing two charges of assaulting a police officer, along with breach of probation and breach of undertaking charges.

He is scheduled to see a justice of the peace Tuesday evening.

A review of the Taser deployment will take place under Saskatoon Police Service policy.
