Day two of Labossiere trial

Another day of riveting testimony Tuesday at the first degree murder trial of Jerome Labossiere and Michel Hince.

Both are accused of killing Jerome Labossiere’s parents and brother at the couple’s farmhouse outside St. Leon in 2005.

Four witnesses took the stand Tuesday including Fire Chief Roy Toupin who also happens to be the father of the Crown’s star witness Jeremie Toupin. Prosecutors say Jeremie Toupin will tie the case together and will tell the court what he and Michel Hince did.  Also that Jerome Labossiere recruited them for the killings.

Fire Chief Roy Toupin was the third person at the Labossiere farmhouse outside St. Leon the morning Fernand, Rita and Remi Labossiere were murdered. Tuesday he told jurors when he drove up to the farmyard there was nothing left, the house was just a smoldering hole in the ground.

It was first believed the Labossiere’s died in the fire, but autopsy results proved they were shot to death before the blaze.

Monday, defense lawyers grilled RCMP investigators, asking why footprints that were taped off by firefighters and pointed out to the officers were not investigated.

Tuesday those tracks were brought up again to the fire chief. He initially told police that the footprints looked like a size 10 or 11 running shoe and the length of the stride about four or five feet was left by someone who was running.

The Crown also called Mark Kohaykewych, he told jurors how he and Jerome Labossiere met and became friends. He met with Jerome Labossiere at a bar the night before the murders, he told the jury, Labossierre left the bar early saying they had things to do and there was nothing unusual about the way they acted that night.

The trial continues Wednesday.
