WATCH ABOVE: New details Tuesday morning about a Kentucky girl dragged by her school bus. She’s been released from the hospital. We’re also getting our first look at the 7-year-old who is now on the road to recovery. Don Champion reports.
TORONTO – Residents of a Kentucky neighbourhood were left horrified after a seven-year-old girl was dragged at least 300 metres by her school bus — leaving her badly injured.
Ally Rednour was dropped off near her babysitter’s home Friday after a day at Wilkerson Elementary School in Louisville. But, unfortunately, as the Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) driver pulled away, her backpack became stuck in the doors.
She was dragged at least 300 metres across asphalt from the residence on Johnsontown Road to Morning Star Way. And the distance may have been greater – one report published Monday afternoon claims Rednour’s mother cited up to 600 metres.
A quick search on Google Maps indicates a drive from the school directly to Morning Star Way would take approximately two minutes.

Student Tyshon Smith said he and the other young passengers on the bus were in disbelief after the incident.
“She was screaming and kicking and we was all afraid, thinking did that just really happen?” he said.
“She should have watched the girl walk up the driveway before she pulled off,” babysitter Brian Burlison told WLKY.
But it appears the driver didn’t wait long enough. Part of the incident was captured by Tom Carman’s home surveillance system.
“When I first saw it on my camera I thought ‘oh my gosh.’ How can a bus driver not pay attention to the children around him, right outside of his own door, and it is made of clear glass?” Carman remarked.
Rednour, ironically the daughter of another JCPS bus driver, was sent to hospital with severe road rash and is currently recovering.
“Her little legs [had] hardly any skin left on one of them,” witness Esther Karschner told CBS.

Rednour’s mother, Amy, has been receiving an outpouring of support on Facebook as her daughter recovers.
“I just wanted to say thank u for all the support & concerns & prayers but please keep them coming as it is going to be a long road for her & myself!” Amy stated in a Facebook post.
Local police and JCPS are currently investigating.
“We are very grateful that our student is on the road to full recovery, and we are deeply disturbed by this incident. Immediately after the accident, we began an investigation into how and why this happened,” JCPS said in a statement. “This investigation is currently ongoing, and we will be working with all of our bus drivers to review the policies designed to ensure the safety and security of our students, which is our number one priority at all times.”
