Labour Relations Board meets for second day on legality of teachers’ strike

WATCH: Alan Carter reports that there is no quick decision expected from the labour relations board on teacher strikes.

The province’s Labour Relations Board will meet again today as it considers whether strikes by high school teachers in three boards are illegal.

More than 70-thousand students have been out of class for weeks as high school teachers in Durham Region, Rainbow District, which includes the Sudbury area, and Peel Region walk the picket lines.

The school boards argue the union is staging local strikes on central issues, such as money and class sizes, which is not allowed under the province’s bargaining system.

Thousands of teachers rallied outside the provincial legislature in Toronto yesterday in support of their striking colleagues.
