WATCH: One Vancouver business owner is so dedicated to recycling and committed to leading by example that she’s been dubbed “the queen of plastic.” Linda Aylesworth tells us why.
If you visit The Kitchen Corner on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano, you might notice an unusual sign.
It asks all people to leave or bring back the packaging for items they buy.
It’s just one of many steps its owner, Rebecca Sarraf, has taken to promote recycling.

“Every time I sold an item, it was bothering me that I was handing plastic that the city wasn’t recycling,” she says.
“I came up with this program where they could leave it at the counter, so it wouldn’t be in ocean or groundwater.”
“I give the same spiel a lot. I actually ended up losing my voice this year, because I was talking so much about the program.”
She separates all plastic between hard and soft, explains to customers what is and isn’t recyclable, and makes sure there’s as little waste coming from her business as possible.
“I don’t believe in garbage.”
