Italian astronaut drinks first espresso in space

TORONTO – It may have taken a while to get there, but it seemed to be worth the wait.

Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti was finally able to use the specially designed espresso machine — dubbed ISSpresso — over the weekend.

Dressed in a Star Trek: The Next Generation command uniform, Cristoforetti is seen downing the espresso in a specially-designed drinking “cup.”

Not only does this espresso machine provide some of the comforts of home, but NASA said that it hopes to use the opportunity to better understand how fluids move in space.

The espresso machine was designed by Italian coffee-maker Lavazza together with Argotech.
