ASIRT investigating EPS in-custody death

EDMONTON – ASIRT has launched an investigation into the death a man while in Edmonton police custody.

Police responded to a trespassing call at a downtown mall Wednesday night.

Officers took a 25-year-old man into custody and transported him to the downtown Division, police say.

The man went into medical distress while in custody, according to police. Paramedics treated and transported the man to hospital where he later died.

ASIRT has taken over the investigation.
