Ryan Gosling, Christopher Plummer, ‘Incendies’ land spots on BAFTA long lists

TORONTO – Ryan Gosling, Christopher Plummer and the Canadian war drama “Incendies” are in the running for British Academy Film Award nominations.

The U.K. award institution – commonly referred to as the BAFTA Film Awards or the British Oscars – announced its long lists of films, actors and directors competing for nominations at this year’s gala.

Gosling, born in London, Ont., is being considered for his critically acclaimed roles in both “Drive” and “The Ides of March.”

Both films are also on the 15-movie long list for best film.

“Incendies,” from Oscar-nominated Quebec filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, is being considered for best film not in the English language.

Meanwhile, Plummer is in the running for best supporting actor for his turn in “Beginners.”

Each category will be narrowed to five nominees on Jan. 17. Winners will be announced on Feb. 12.
