Saskatoon Stars win bronze at Esso Cup

RED DEER, Alta. – The Saskatoon Stars’ aspirations of winning their first national championship fell short this weekend in Red Deer, Alta. The Stars lost in a shootout to the Red Deer Chiefs at the 2015 Esso Cup semifinal Friday.

The result pitted Saskatoon in a bronze medal matchup against the Central Plains Capitals on Saturday.

The Stars were still determined to bring home some hardware and defeated the Capitals 5-1 for a third place finish.

Last year, the Weyburn Gold Wings women’s hockey team won the Esso Cup.
