Manitoba golf talent prepares for the Masters – at age 11

WINNIPEG — While most 11-year old are getting ready to kick back during spring break, Ryan Blair is preparing to compete at the Masters in Augusta.

This past summer he beat out thousands of other young golfers for a chance to play during the biggest golf event in the world.

Blair is one of 100 other kids who will compete during the Drive, Chip, Putt Championship at the beginning of April, right before the Masters tournament begins.

“You see 11 and 12-year-olds on the putting green with Rory McIlroy or on the driving range with Adam Scott,” said Jason Leudke, the genreal manager at Pine Ridge Golf Club who was at the Masters last year.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

But while his American competitors have been training in the warm weather, the young Oakbank phenom is making the most of indoor golf.

“I don’t really think it’s where you train, I think it’s what you do to get there,” said Blair.

While it might be Blair’s first trip to Augusta, he’s hoping it’s not his last.

“My ultimate dream is to actually make it again, and play the tournament,” said Blair.
