Record temperatures set in Alberta

Tennis courts open as Calgarians enjoy unusually warm March.

Five Alberta towns and cities are now boasting new record high temperatures after another unseasonably warm day.

Edmonton International, Cold Lake, Slave Lake, Lloydminster and Fort Chipewyan all have a new entry in the record books for March 14th.

Calgary did not break a record Saturday although it did come close hitting 16 degrees. The record high for Calgary was 16.7C set back in 1910.

The bigger story for the day turned out to be the wind.

There were wind warnings in place for much of the day for Southern Alberta. Many areas saw wind gusts around 100k/h.

In Calgary, peak wind gusts reached 84km/h Saturday around 7pm and in Brocket, Alberta wind gusts peaked at 120km/h.

A big change is expected for Sunday when temperatures are expected to be up to 14 degrees cooler than Saturday.

Most of Southern Alberta including Calgary could get some snow. The last time it snowed in Calgary was March 2nd.
