TORONTO – Hundreds of teacher and staff positions at the Toronto District School Board may be on the chopping block as administrators deal with declining enrollment and funding cuts from the provincial government.
The board and its trustees will meet Wednesday whether to approve the cuts to more than 200 teachers and close to 100 special education staffers.
The board says there won’t be any teacher layoffs as the positions will be eliminated through attrition.
The TDSB is dealing with a deficit of $16.5 million for 2015-2016 as it attempts to balance its budget.
