UPDATE: After a panel of glass fell from Trump Tower earlier this week, the City of Vancouver has given their approval for construction work to begin again on the site. Preliminary investigations by Urban One Builders show the accident was due to a mechanical failure in a piece of machinery used to lift glass panels during the installation process. The equipment has been taken out of service indefinitely pending further investigation.

The window was being installed at the new tower when it fell and shattered onto the street just before 3 p.m.
A witness at the scene told Global News he ran outside after hearing the crash and that it was a fully assembled window pane with glass, roughly 1.5 metres wide by 3 metres high. A construction worker told the witness the glass had fallen from the 58th floor of the tower.
This is not the first time a Trump Tower has trouble with their windows. In November 2012 police shut down a Toronto intersection after glass fell from the Trump Tower and in March 2014, pedestrians noticed a large panel dangling from a room on the 52nd floor of the Trump Tower.
Commuters are asked to find an alternate route since both directions of West Georgia Street between Bute and Thurlow Streets are closed. Buses that run through those areas are being detoured, according to TransLink.
WorkSafe BC is currently investigating the accident and the City of Vancouver has issued a stop work order for the site.
