KELOWNA – Buying local is something many Okanagan residents strive for, but it’s not always convenient. Not only are there large grocery stores everywhere but knowing where to go to purchase local products can be a challenge.
Soil Mates, a new website created by Kelowna resident Matt Gomez, hopes to make it easier to buy local.
“The website is basically a tool for you to find who raises, grows, produces what within a 100-mile radius of wherever you are in North America,” says Gomez.
Whether you’re looking for locally-produced meat and vegetables or wine and beer, the site provides advice about the product and where it’s sold.
The website was launched nine months ago and is already attracting plenty of attention. It recently won the Best Concept Award at the annual Small Business B.C. Awards.
