Oilers trade Petry to Canadiens for draft picks, fans not happy

WATCH ABOVE: Early today, the Oilers announced they had traded Jeff Petry to Montreal in exchange for a second-round draft pick and a conditional fifth-round pick. John Sexsmith reports.

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers have traded defenceman Jeff Petry to the Montreal Canadiens for a pair of draft picks. The Oilers have acquired a 2nd round pick and a conditional 5th round pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft for the blueliner.

That fifth-round pick reportedly becomes a fourth if the Canadiens reach the second round of the playoffs and a third if they reach the Eastern Conference final.

The right-shooting defensive defenceman was considered one of the most likely players to be dealt before 3 p.m. trade deadline.

Oiler fans took to Twitter immediately after the deal was announced, with the majority expressing their displeasure.
