Extreme cold warning expanded across most of Manitoba

WINNIPEG – Most of Manitoba is under an extreme cold warning on Wednesday morning.

The southern half of Manitoba and the northernwest are under extreme cold warnings as temperatures dropped below -30 C and wind chill values were lower than -40 overnight. Wind chill values dropped below -45 in much of northern Manitoba.

The cold prompted Brandon School Division to cancel its rural buses.

The temperature is forecast to warm up through the morning but the extreme wind chill values are expected to return Wednesday night.

The extreme cold warning for Lynn Lake, Leaf Rapids andPukatawagan ended shortly after 10 a.m. The wind chill warning for Brochet ended at 1 p.m.

It was -23 C in Winnipeg at 1 p.m. with a wind chill of -35.
