On Monday, at the Valleyfield Courthouse, a defence lawyer for 34-year-old Claudia Flores-Jiminez told Global News his client has a “history of psychiatric problems.”
A Quebec Court judge ordered Flores-Jiminez to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if the woman is fit to stand trail.
Results of the tests will be shared with the court on Friday morning.
“We want to see if she understands what is going on in court,” said crown prosecutor Pierre-Olivier Gagnon.
“We want to determine if she understands what she is accused of, and if she is able to talk to her lawyer.”
Flores-Jiminez is facing a count of first-degree murder.
Last Thursday, police said she allegedly killed her daughter inside the family home on Leo-Gravelle Street in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Authorities said they believed the young girl may have been stabbed to death.
Police added the mother then tried to commit suicide.
In Vaudreuil-Dorion, a number of family members gathered at the home.
They were seen leaving with balloons and teddy bears in their hands.
One friend of the family, Julio, told Global News the family is devastated by the tragic loss of the young girl.
“She was a beautiful girl, a very, very nice and beautiful person,” he said.
“That’s the way we remember her and that’s the way we want to remember her.”
