Parts of NW Regina left without power

SaskPower was still on scene first thing this morning trying to figure why they lost power in Regina’s Northwest Monday night. 

Thousands lost power at around 10 p.m., said James Parker, SaskPower spokesman. He said by 2 a.m. power was restored throughout the city, but a handful of customers north of Regina was still dealing with some power loss.

Parker said he is unsure of why the power was out, but a line north of the city was on the ground. They rerouted power from other areas to bring it back to the city. 

A chain effect caused a transformer to blow at Shaw Pipe Protection, he said. 

The Regina Fire Department was called out to the transformer. They were on stand-by until SaskPower arrived – it was about 45 minutes. They had one unit on site.

The fire department said there was no damage to the building and no injuries,
