WATCH: The Oilers have mapped out possible price points for the start of the 2016 season, are asking season ticket holders for their input. Kendra Slugoski has details.
EDMONTON — The city’s downtown arena may still be 18 months away from opening, but the Oilers aren’t wasting any time asking season ticket holders how much they’d spend for a seat in the new venue.
Proposed prices range from a low of $1,950 for a seat in the upper bowl to a high of $14,400 for a plush chair in the new theatre boxes. Per game, that’s a range of $43 to $320 per seat.
Ryan Batty was one of thousands asked to share his opinion in a survey. He’s invested in two seats since the Oilers’ last playoff run. This year, he spent $2,400, which works out to about $50 per game. Despite the team’s dismal record, Batty says it’s a fair price for professional hockey.
But how much more would he and other fans be willing to pay?

“There’s a price point I guess where they would chase me away. But I’d be surprised if they came up with a number that I wouldn’t renew at,” he admits.
All the Oilers will say, for now, is that the new arena will be full of extras.
“There will be range of seats with appropriate amenities for everybody in Oil Country. No question,” says Patrick Laforge of the Oilers Entertainment Group.
For Batty, watching his team in a swanky new building may be worth the price of admission — at least for the first year.
“Everybody’s going to want to be there. I guess what I could do is just sell my tickets for opening night and probably pay for my season.”
